The Deveraux Group of Companies and Deveraux Apartment Communities are proud to support Carmichael Outreach (www.carmichaeloutreach.ca) by matching donations from the first event of the Lean on Me Community Lunch Program. The Lean on Me program, a joint venture between the Dog River Howlers Rugby Club and Brewed Awakening, aims to provide Carmichael Outreach with 200 prepared lunches every Wednesday. This is all made possible by the generous support of Brewed Awakening patrons, the general public and other businesses, like Deveraux, that are keen to support this worthy cause.
The Lean on Me Community Lunch Program officially kicked off on the morning of Wednesday, May 20th in the parking lot at Brewed Awakenings' east location. With a lead $1000 contribution from the Dog River Howlers, the generous citizens of Regina (led by Mayor Michael Fougre who was in attendance) brought the total one-day funds raised to $3970. Juno award-winning musician Jack Semple performed for a small, physically distanced crowd. He played the inspirational namesake song of the program, Lean on Me, originally performed by the late Bill Withers. The lyrics of the song urge those in trouble to lean on those in a more fortunate position.
Denis Jones, President and CEO of the Deveraux Group of Companies, has partnered with the Dog River Howlers in the past to support other charitable organizations. In backing the Lean on Me Community Lunch Program, Denis stated that "We are proud to support Carmichael Outreach and the work they do in the community. As a local housing provider, we well understand the foundational need to have a safe and secure home. Because of this, we were moved to match the generous donations of those supporting the Lean on Me Program. The work done by groups like Brewed Awakening and the Dog River Howlers is what makes Regina such a special city and Deveraux challenges other businesses to support this cause."
About the Lean on Me Community Lunch Program
The Lean on Me Community Lunch Program is a joint effort of the Dog River Howlers Rugby Club and Brewed Awakening. This program is an ongoing endeavour with a goal to provide 200 healthy and nutritious lunches for Carmicheal Outreach every Wednesday. Brewed Awakening is providing assistance and resources in preparing the lunches and is accepting donations at each of their four Regina locations. For any amount above $20, a charitable tax receipt can be issued. All monies raised, but not spent on preparing the meals will be donated to help other local charities. Each week, the Lean on Me Program respectfully challenges a local business to match the donations. That business then is able to select the other charitable organization to receive the balance of the funds.
