If you’re reading this, chances are that you’re preparing for a move! Although moving is a lot of work and can be stressful, we’ve compiled a list of 8 moving hacks that will make your move more efficient, easier, and quicker.  

1. Declutter & Donate 

As soon as you know your moving schedule, take the time to donate or sell any items that you’ve been meaning to get rid of. There is no use in packing up and bringing clutter to the new home!

2. Don't Procrastinate

We know it’s easier said than done, but don’t wait until the last minute to pack! Pack a little bit each day, starting with seasonal decorations, guest rooms and other items you don’t use every day.

3. Keep Closets and Drawers Untouched

Use garbage bags to pack up clothes that are hanging in your closet while they’re still on the hanger. This way you just need to take the garbage bags off and transfer to the new closet! Garbage bags can also be used to move linens and towels. 

Instead of emptying out drawers, use 2-3 layers of saran wrap to secure the items in place during your move.

4. Use Quality Boxes & Tape

Buying good quality boxes that are all the same size will make packing and stacking the boxes much easier during the move. You can buy moving boxes from Uhaul or Amazon. 

Buying a tape gun will also make the packing process easier.

5. Label Boxes & Keep Note

When labelling your moving boxes, we recommend including:

  • List of items it contains
  • Which area of the home the box belongs in
  • If the box is fragile
  • Which side of the box should face up

Keeping track of each box and its contents in a notebook can help immensely when you start to unpack in your new home. Keep this notebook with your essentials bag on the day of the move.

6. Pack Fragile Items in Clothing & Linens

Save on bubble wrap and use clothing and linens to wrap up your fragile items in boxes.

7. Hire Movers If You Can

Although it can be costly, hiring professional movers can alleviate much of the stress that comes with moving. With hiring a professional moving crew, you don’t have to worry about the heavy lifting, damaging your furniture on the way out, hassling friends to help you or borrowing a vehicle.

8. Pack an Overnight Bag/Basket
